Ladies, we’ve all been there — premenstrual syndrome (PMS) wreaking havoc on our bodies and minds. Trust me, I know what it feels like. At one point in my life, I truly felt like I was a completely different person one week before my period started. Luckily, I’ve learned that there are some natural remedies out there that can make that time of the month a little bit more bearable. And that’s exactly what I decided to share with you today! So, let me teach you how to ease PMS symptoms with natural supplements, and you can thank me later!
Magnesium
First up on our list is magnesium – a powerhouse mineral that plays a crucial role in muscle relaxation and mood regulation. And even though this is such an important nutrient, many people still overlook it. Especially when it comes to menstrual health. However, the truth is that many women experience low levels of magnesium during their menstrual cycle. This can lead to symptoms such as cramps, irritability, and even anxiety. But if you incorporate magnesium into your daily supplement intake (ideally magnesium glycinate) you can help to relax tense muscles, ease cramps, and promote a sense of calm and well-being. Take them daily at night for the best results.
Vitamin B6
Next on our list is vitamin B6 – a key nutrient that plays a vital role in neurotransmitter synthesis and mood regulation. If you’re suffering from mood swings and irritability (I am not judging, we have all been there) during PMS, it can be even further exacerbated if you have low levels of vitamin B6. However, vitamin B supplements can be a bit tricky, so I would definitely advise you to talk to your doctor first. If she or he gives you the green light, make sure to look for vitamin B6 supplements in the form of pyridoxine hydrochloride, as they are absorbed the best.
Evening Primrose Oil
Another natural supplement that can help ease PMS symptoms is evening primrose oil – a rich source of gamma-linolenic acid (GLA), an omega-6 fatty acid that helps regulate hormone levels and reduce inflammation in the body. If you experience symptoms like breast tenderness, bloating, and mood swings, then evening primrose oil could be a great solution for you. Speaking from my personal experience, it even helped me with the hormonal acne that I was having during PMS. Make sure to look for supplements that contain at least 500 mg of GLA per capsule, and take them daily throughout your menstrual cycle to help balance hormones.
Turmeric
Last but not least, I have to talk about turmeric – one of my favorite supplements of all time! One huge thing that I had to deal with during PMS and my actual period was joint pain. And it was turmeric that has made a significant difference in the health of my joints! Packed with anti-inflammatory and antioxidant properties, curcumin, the active compound in turmeric, has been shown to help reduce inflammation, alleviate pain, and support overall health. But that’s not all that turmeric can help you with. In addition with evening primrose oil, I believe that turmeric is the reason why my skin is so much clearer and calmer, even during those days of the month.
