Natural Deodorant Recipes: Chemical-free Options You Can Make at Home

diy-deodorant-home-made-baking-soda

Are you tired of slathering potentially harmful chemicals on your skin every day? I don’t want to sound like the clean-beauty police, however, the ingredients that are in our deodorants really matter. Just consider how much of them we apply each day to the areas of our bodies that contain the highest amount of lymph nodes. On another note — clean and natural deodorants can get quite pricey. Especially considering that the ingredients are something most of us already have in the kitchen. So, what’s the middle ground? Make your own deodorant! Here are some of our favorite natural deodorant recipes.

Coconut Oil and Baking Soda

Let’s start with a classic favorite – coconut oil and baking soda deodorant. All you need is:

3 tablespoons of coconut oil
2 tablespoons of baking soda
2 tablespoons of arrowroot powder or cornstarch
10-15 drops of your favorite essential oil (optional, but adds a lovely scent)

Simply mix everything together until it’s nice and smooth. Then, transfer it into a clean deodorant container or a jar, and voila! You’ve got yourself a homemade deodorant that’s gentle on your skin and tough on odor.

Shea Butter and Candelilla Wax

Are you someone who prefers a little bit of extra moisture and staying power? Then we have something for you too. Here’s our shea butter and candelilla wax deodorant recipe:

2 tablespoons of shea butter
2 tablespoons of candelilla wax
2 tablespoons of coconut oil
2 tablespoons of arrowroot powder or cornstarch
1 tablespoon of baking soda
10-15 drops of your favorite essential oil

Melt the shea butter, candelilla wax, and coconut oil together, then stir in the arrowroot powder and baking soda. Add your essential oil for a nice scent, and pour it into a container. Make sure to let it cool off first, and after a couple of hours — it’s ready to be used! Pretty simple, huh?

Apple Cider Vinegar and Witch Hazel

If you’re looking for a super quick and easy option, give this apple cider vinegar spray deodorant a try. However, I have to warn you — if you have super sensitive skin then this might not be the best option for you, as ACV can be a bit drying. However, on the other hand, the antimicrobial properties of ACV make this one of the most powerful deodorants on our list. All you’ll need is:

1/4 cup of apple cider vinegar
1/4 cup of witch hazel
1/4 cup of distilled water
10-15 drops of your favorite essential oil

Just mix everything together in a clean spray bottle, give it a good shake, and you’re ready to roll! You can keep it in the fridge for an extra refreshing spritz whenever you need it.

Tea Tree Oil and Aloe Vera Gel

We’ll finish things off with another classic — tea tree oil and aloe vera gel. Tea tree oil is an amazing essential oil that has antimicrobial and anti-fungal properties. However, if you’ve ever used it you know that it doesn’t have the most pleasant smell. But you can always mix in a few drops of a different essential oil of your choice.

Half a cup of aloe vera gel
1/4 cup of witch hazel
One tablespoon of baking soda
10-15 drops of tea tree essential oil

In a clean spray bottle, combine the aloe vera gel, witch hazel, and baking soda. Then simply add the tea tree essential oil and shake well to combine. Finally, make sure to store all of the deodorants in a cool, dark place for best results.
