If you’re anything like me, getting a good night’s sleep can sometimes feel like an elusive dream. But over the years, I’ve discovered that having a holistic nighttime routine makes all the difference. Sure, it takes a little bit of time and effort, but once you wake up completely rejuvenated in the morning, it will be clear to you that everything was more than worth it. So, here’s my ultimate guide to sleeping like a queen.

Herbal Tea — The Ultimate Bedtime Drink

I know that this one seems so basic, however — sipping on herbal tea before bedtime has absolutely changed my sleeping schedule! Of course, not any herbal tea will do, but teas infused with chamomile, valerian root, or lemon balm are known for their sleep-inducing properties and can help you relax before bed. This combined with supplements such as magnesium and melatonin was the ultimate game changer for me when it comes to going to bed at a reasonable hour. Additionally, it feels so nice having half an hour for myself before bed, doing nothing else but just sip on a cup of tea and relax.

Sticking to a Schedule is Key

Talking about a sleeping schedule, I just want to quickly remind you how important it is to maintain a consistent sleep routine. Try to go to bed and wake up at the same time every day, even on weekends. This helps regulate your internal clock and makes it easier to fall asleep and wake up naturally. I know — this can be so boring! Especially for someone who loves to go out during the weekend. However, your body will be so thankful for it in the long run. The easiest way to do that is by establishing a wind-down ritual that signals to your body that it’s time to relax. Whether it’s reading a book, meditating, or doing some light stretching, anything that helps you unwind will do the trick.

Don’t Forget to Treat Yourself

A little self-care before bed can go a long way in enhancing your sleep quality. Indulge in a warm bath or shower to relax your muscles and help you unwind. The rise and subsequent drop in body temperature can signal to your body that it’s time to sleep. Another thing that puts me in a sleeping mood is doing my skincare routine. Light up some candles, play some relaxing music, and you’ll instantly feel a lot more at ease. Take the time to cleanse your face, apply a nourishing moisturizer, and maybe even treat yourself to a facial massage. This not only helps you relax but also takes care of yourself.

Mindfulness and Meditation

Finally, the most important step of my holistic nighttime routine is clearing my mind. My favorite way to do that is by spending a few minutes each night journaling your thoughts, worries, or a gratitude list to clear your mind and reduce anxiety. This practice can help you process your day and let go of any lingering stress. Guided meditation or mindfulness exercises are also excellent tools to help you let go of the day’s stresses and prepare your mind for sleep. It’s these little things that can help calm your mind, reduce anxiety, and create a sense of peace that is conducive to falling asleep.
