Summer is here, and while we all dream of that effortless, glowing skin, the reality is that skincare can feel like a chore. Especially if you’re a fellow lazy girl like me. Listen — it’s no secret that I’m absolutely obsessed with skincare. But that doesn’t mean that I always feel like doing it. Particularly those lengthy nighttime routines. So, what’s my secret? A couple of occasional high-maintenance tricks, that are making by routine low-maintenance for the most part. So, let’s go over what I mean by that, and let me share with you my lazy girl’s guide to flawless summer skin.

Diet & Nutrition

I know, I know — you’re absolutely sick of hearing it. However, it’s just the truth — your diet and lifestyle play a SIGNIFICANT role in the way your skin looks. First things first — hydration. I’m so bad at staying hydrated, but whenever I actually stick to it, I always see a noticeable difference. Water is your best friend, helping to flush out toxins and keep your skin looking plump and fresh. But if you find it hard to drink plain water, jazz it up with slices of cucumber, lemon, or a few mint leaves.

Next, let’s talk about diet and nutrition. No one wants to hear this, but if you’re constantly eating refined sugar and your body has to go through numerous insulin spikes per day — don’t be surprised if you always have active breakouts. As delicious as sweet treats are, they can also cause a lot of internal inflammation. So, be sure to minimize your intake as much as you can. In addition to that, I also love to take natural supplements that have anti-inflammatory properties, such as turmeric or maca root extract.

Monthly Facials

Listen, I’ve said that this is the lazy girl’s summer skin guide, not the budget girl’s. I know — facials are ridiculously expensive. But — they are so worth it! Especially if we’re talking about hydrafacials. Nothing cleans the junk out of your pores better than a hydrafacial. And as expensive as they are, they will also minimize the amount of skincare and makeup products that you’ll have to use during the summer. So, if you can afford it, I would strongly encourage you to do a monthly facial treatment.

Other than that, you can also do a DIY pampering routine at home. A facial steamer, and mud mask, followed up with a sheet mask is my ultimate method of cleaning up the sebum out of your pores at home. I always feel like my complexion is so clean and fresh when I do this.

Exfoliate Weekly

Besides monthly facials, my last piece of advice to keep your skin clean and glowing all summer long is exfoliating weekly. And while I’m a firm believer in chemical exfoliation, I’ll also use a physical exfoliating product on my body from time to time. If you’re exfoliating just once a week, don’t be afraid to use a more potent product that contains AHAs such as glycolic and lactic acid. I usually apply it at nighttime and make sure to be super cautious about sun protection the next day. Either way, regular exfoliation will eliminate dead skin cells and give your complexion a brighter, more even look.
